Summer Season
(1st October - 30th April)

Summer is the season of the insect hatch! There is truly no better sight for an angler than that of a wild trout rising to a dry fly. Experience premium fishing conditions with crystal clear water and native forest surrounds all on your back doorstep! Paradise.

Winter Season
(1st May - 30th September)

Taupo offers some of the best river fishing in the World, especially so during the southern hemisphere's winter months. Large numbers of Rainbow and Brown Trout run up the rivers to spawn providing heart-stopping rod action on these hard fighting, prime condition fish.
Standard fishing methods are with nymph and wet fly. The temperatures are generally cool in the morning clearing to a mild day but rest assured the early morning rise is well worth it!

Tongariro Raft Fish

The upper Tongariro runs through a majestic gorge revealing the area's volcanic history and rock structures.  The cliff valley and river edge is thick with native forest and abundant bird life.  Enjoy the melody of a Tui's bird song whilst you cast to large aggressive Rainbow and Brown Trout.

Book a Tongariro Raft Fishing experience if you enjoy mixing fly fishing with some white water and pristine scenery.

Season opens 1st December and closes 31st May.  Bookings recommended well in advance for opening and closing week due to high demand.

Heli-Fish Experience

With the use of local helicopter pilots, we can access remote wilderness rivers and streams. These pristine waters in high alpine tussocks, or deep ravines cloaked in magnificent native forest, is a sight that leaves even the seasoned angler breathless with its awe and rugged beauty!

Highly experienced helicopter pilots will take us exactly where we need to go to encounter the wild Rainbow and Brown Trout that inhabit these waters. The trout are wild and generally large and put up a superb fight.

Stunning scenery, lakes, river and streams accessible by 4 wheel drive, boat, helicopter or hiking. This trip offers the truly adventurous angler an opportunity to fish a variety of rivers, streams, small and large lakes, and river mouths.

The clear water streams and rivers in remote areas hold good numbers of both Brown and Rainbow Trout. Dry flies perform well when insects are hatching however nymphs are always reliable.

Small and large lakes offer crystal clear water with large Rainbow and Brown Trout cruising the shores and lower reaches of the streams that run into the lakes. Insect hatches instigate superb still water activity for the skilled and patient angler.

A good level of general fitness is required for this type of fishing as wading conditions can vary from easy to very difficult. A keen sense of adventure, casting accuracy, good vision and stealth will gain best results.

A range of wilderness packages are available (minimum 3 days) with modest accommodation nestled in native forest.

Season opens 1st October and closes 30th April. Packages tailored to suit.
